There are not enough words to describe how grateful I am for you—for all that you are and all that you’ve done. My entire life I’ve marveled at the respect you’ve earned from perfect strangers at the most vulnerable points of their lives as they confront cancer. The state of the world today makes people like you and #frontlineworkers the most valuable; but it didn’t take a pandemic for me to know this.

And although the streets of Manhattan are looking a bit different these days… I’m no longer being pushed around in a double stroller, the cars don’t look like they’re from back to the future, and there’s not much traffic these days… let’s hope that this is a once-in-a lifetime birthday and that better days are to come.

You have taught me more than you could ever even imagine, but most importantly the resiliency of the human spirit.

Thanks to you, I’ve learned how to be kind, when to be tough, how to fight for what’s right, to stand my own ground, the importance of getting things in writing, to be my own advocate and to find those who will support and love me along the way. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be your chosen daughter, and forever and ever I’d always choose you (again and again and again and again). I aspire to be a fraction of the person you are. Although we can’t be together today, [fuck you COVID-19] know I love you to the moon and back; once this over we’ll have a proper celebration at a place of your choosing. Happy Birthday, Mom. 🌙 ✨🌈🌸
